Un propos de Marin Karmitz
Co-founder of New Realism, Martial Raysse is renowned today as one of the precursors of Pop Art. His work eludes classification however, showing itself as a universe coloured in irony, an enactment of the real unveiling the cynicism of modern comfort. Associated with the impressive project Dylaby in 1962 – a contraction of “Dynamisch Labyrinth” – exhibition organized at the Stedelijk Museum of Amsterdam by a group of artists among whom Robert Rauschenberg, Daniel Spoerri and Jean Tinguely, Martial Raysse offers us an environment recreating a beach on the Côte d’Azur, To the sound of a juke-box, visitors are invited to participate in the scene complete with balls and rubber rings, surrounded by photos of life-size pin-ups, around an inflatable pool.
